Sandy would like to improve her ability to freestyle illustrations, so she's taken the opportunity over the last few evenings to come up with a concept, and just start. She uses basic reference images (from Pinterest), then breaks them down into their individual pattern components to achieve the desired effect. This piece took about 6 hours total, and is drawn with Copic black fine-liners.

The Final Illustration
After completing the final Hummingbird illustration, Sandy felt pleased with the overall flow of the pattern work and layering effect of the feathers.
Steve thought it would be fun to add some colour to it. Below represents that exploration.
